Natsume Yuujinchou

9.75 (excellent) What's not to like about this series? Nyanko- sensei and Natsume's relationship is always entertaining. I enjoyed the first series because of the humor and theme of loneliness, but the second season really made be adore this series as it further explored the good and evil as it pertains to humans and spirits. I am looking forward to seeing how the third season will continue. I feel that Natsume in the manga is much more "violent" towards Nyanko-Sensei than in the anime. XD

9.75 (excellent) Who would have thought a manga ABOUT writing manga could be so engaging? I was drawn to it by the beautiful artwork I saw in scans here, and later found out it was the same mangaka as Death Note. (Knew something felt familiar!) It can feel a little bit redundant at times, but I think the mangaka does a fine job of keeping the storyline fresh. I have a whole new appreciation for mangaka after reading about the various steps/situations they go through. ^_^

9.50 (excellent) By far my favorite Miyazaki film... beautiful story with an environmental theme. This is one of the few films that I can watch subbed OR dubbed because both casts are stellar. This film also has one of my favorite soundtracks of the Miyazaki films. The score is epic sounding and beautiful.

9.50 (excellent) Loved, loved, loved it! There are really no characters that I did not like. Also love the character designs! Lots of good eye-candy! Can't wait for more of the anime!

9.25 (very good) One of the best example of character development and personal growth I have seen in an anime. The main character is really annoying for the first half of the series, but it is necessary in order for the second half to be so amazing. It's a shame this series has to end early as well, but at least they wrap up the first story arc. I feel that the anime fleshes out the characters a bit more than the novels do.

9.25 (very good) While this series is kind of episodic, that's part of the beauty of it! Gorgeous artwork and interesting storylines make for one refreshing anime. However, the secondary characters have a tendency to resemble each other. One of those series that doesn't necessarily need to be seen in order.

9.25 (very good) Excellent anime... I'm a huge fan of dystopian literature, so this series really appeals to me. I absolutely love the different countries and the moral/ethical questions that arise. Main premise is very similar to The Little Prince. (Which I have yet to read.) I'm very disappointed in TokyoPop for losing the license to this series. I feel that the novels would have brought more meaning to the anime series.

9.25 (very good) Wow! Very bloody, but loved all the characters and storyline. If you're planning to watch this series, don't let the first episode dissuade you. It's very confusing, but necessary to tie the whole series together. Reading the wiki entry on the series it seems like there is more to the story... I wish the anime were longer! Great OST-- especially the opening theme "Guns and Roses".

9.00 (very good) Gets off to a slow start, but really takes off afterwards. My favorite "files" would be "The Bloody Labyrinth" and "Silent Christmas". Not recommended to be watched alone and/or late at night. This is another series in which the anime does not cover the entirety of the novels. This series would greatly benefit from a second season.

9.00 (very good) Reviewing on MANGA ONLY. I absolutely abhor the anime. The manga is one of my favorite series of all times. Love the characters and overall storyline. Be prepared for a twist towards the end! My favorite characters are Akira (for his always striving to be better attitude), and Hotaru (for his aloofness, but can be quite sharp when necessary).

9.00 (very good) Fabulous! I really haven't marathoned an anime series like this in years. Aspects of all my favorite dystopian novels in one-- Minority Report, I, Robot, and Brave New World. Second season kinda fell by the wayside... Too many annoying characters.

8.75 (very good) My first series I ever watched (and owned) in it's entirety. Love this series, but wish they hadn't deviated from the manga after the Kyoto Arc. I would have liked to have seen how they dealt with the Jinchuu Arc. However, a couple of the anime only storylines (Shimabara, Germans) were pretty decent and introduced some characters that I wish had been fleshed out a bit more.

Fullmetal Alchemist

8.75 (very good) Great storyline, but the first season was different from the manga. Despite this, I thought that in itself the first season had a very satisfying and poignant conclusion. Loved that they re-did the series with Brotherhood as Ling, Lan Fan, and Mei were some of my favorite characters from the manga!

Fruits Basket

8.75 (very good) This is a nice anime on it's own, but I wish that they had followed the manga storyline more closely! I feel that the anime was very light-hearted and kind of glossed over the whole reason why Akito acted in the way they did. The manga storyline get darker as the series progresses and also introduces more characters into the mix. (besides the family) I definitely feel that the romance in the manga was more rewarding than the implied romance in the anime.

Samurai Champloo

8.75 (very good) Quite refreshing in it's unique art-style. I enjoyed this one more than Cowboy Bebop probably because the characters were more appealing to me. The whole relationship between Mugen and Jin was fun. I also enjoyed the pacing of the series, though some of the episodes did have that "wtf" factor. (Purple smoke episode?)

8.75 (very good) One of the great Miyazaki films-- great storyline and musical score. Another one of Studio Ghibli's films that I don't mind watching subbed or dubbed, though Chihiro's English voice actor can sound kind of annoying at times.

8.75 (very good) The best thing about this one is the character development. I can't really pick one favorite character because they were all so excellent! I liked when the series got a little more serious vs. slapstick. The ending was good, but somewhat anticlimactic.

Saiunkoku Monogatari

8.75 (very good) The storyline for this series is like the love child of Fushigi Yuugi and The Twelve Kingdoms. It had some great character development of Shuurei and a lovely musical score (OST) for the series. My favorite character would have to be Kouyou, love his non-sense of direction! This is another series that I wish had been continued as the novels give much more story than is presented in the anime.

8.75 (very good) I love this one-volume manga! I only wish the novel weren't out of print so I could read the text from which the manga came. Some of the images in it can be disturbing, so it's not for the faint of heart.

8.50 (very good) This series is always great for a laugh... my go-to feel-good anime! I watched the first episode at 3 am and it was the funniest most random thing ever! Great slice of life, kooky, comedy. Each character has her own unique personality and they all work well together somehow. There are some great AMVs out there for this series!

Cowboy Bebop

8.50 (very good) Great character design and development. I like how different it is from other traditional anime. It's refreshing, like Samurai Champloo. My only criticism would be the "wtf" factor on some of the episodes. (Mushrooms anyone?)

8.50 (very good) I thought that this series showed great promise. It has some great interaction between characters, a decent storyline, beautiful artwork, but I wasn't a big fan of the ending. It got a little too weird and almost like... mecha-ish. I wish they had spent a little more time on the Chronos Numbers as Jenos Hazard was one of my favorite characters.

8.50 (very good) I love the artwork, the character development, and the ending was perfect! This series has one of the best OSTs-- it was written by Mark Mancina and produced by Hans Zimmer, one of my all time favorite composers. The manga on the other hand, not so much a fan of.

NANA

Last Updated: Apr 07, 2011

8.50 (very good) Absolutely love this series! Explores the different sides of love, and the results aren't always what you might expect. This anime has one of most poignant confession scenes in an anime in which Nobu exclaims "Then shatter my illusion! Because otherwise I don't know what to do to stop loving you". *swoons* Shin, despite his many problems is still one of my favorite characters.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi

8.50 (very good) Really nice little series. Each character on their own might be annoying or uninteresting, but as an ensemble they just work. Additionally, the episode order was a little annoying, but I was quite satisfied with the ending! I would be interested to see how the rest of the novels would have translated into the anime.

Death Note

8.50 (very good) Characters were very relatable. Hagu was kind of annoying, but I really identified with Ayumi and her situation with Mayama and Nomiya. I love SPITZ, which was a big draw for me to continue watching this series-- their music just really paired nicely with the scenes in the anime.

8.50 (very good) Checked this one out because it's by the same mangaka as Rurouni Kenshin. I would describe this series as Bleach with alchemy. Very interesting (and unique!) characters and storyline. Wish they'd included some more of the secondary characters a bit more, but overall a satisfying ending. (And Pappi!)

Nodame Cantabile

8.50 (very good) I have only seen the jdrama, but I LOVED it. I didn't think I would at first because it was about a music school, but it had such a great cast! And the orchestra did a great job on each of the pieces that they played. I didn't really care for Chiaki's conducting, but Nodame's antics were great! I loved how they were able to create an anime-ish feeling to the drama. ^_^

Howl's Moving Castle

Last Updated: Apr 07, 2011

8.50 (very good) Loved this film! Howl is such a hottie! The film does get a little confusing as to why Sophie keeps switching from young to old without any explanation... as with many films, I did not care at all for the English dub of this film. I think Christian Bale only did well on Howl's voice at the end of the series when Howl was happier. ^_^

DURARARA!!

8.50 (very good) Made by the same group that did Baccano!, Durarara! is all kinds of fun! Each character has their own strong points, but my favorite character is Shizuo. I also really enjoyed the "romance" between Celty and Shinra. I am looking forward to seeing if the second season will surpass the first season. Also, a pleasant surprise was the inside jokes and cameos from Baccano characters! Issac x Miria <3~~~

8.50 (very good) MANGA ONLY: Love, LOVE, love this series and wish Tokyopop hadn't lost the license for it so I could own the complete manga collection. As it was, I had to end up reading the last few volumes online. Debated about printing out the scanlations so I'd have a complete set, but haven't done it yet. The characters drew me in, stuck around for the storyline-- and hoped and hoped for the pairings I liked to end up together.

Prince of Tennis

Last Updated: Apr 07, 2011

8.25 (good) Decent manga adaptation. However, between the anime and the manga, I like the manga better because there are less fillers. In the anime they tend to drag the tennis matches out over many episodes whereas in the manga I can just click through them. I do wish they'd feature some of the other schools' characters a bit more (Kiyosumi~~~)

8.25 (good) Probably my least favorite of the Miyazaki films that i own-- a decent storyline, but not as stimulating as the other three. I especially dislike Sheeta's VA (Anna Paquin) in the English dub. It's like she can't decide if Sheeta should have an accent or not.

Speed Grapher

8.25 (good) As graphic as it is, i found this anime to be highly refreshing in a world full of cutesy animes... It also helped that the series theme song was "Girls on Film" by Duran Duran. I'm a big lover of 80's music! The anime was a bit odd for me though, the idea that people can be granted powers via Kagura's bodily fluids...

8.25 (good) Only saw the OVA, but it was great. Loved the characters and the storyline... I've read up somewhat on the regular series and it doesn't seem like something I'd be interested in. I read some of the manga as well and it was waaaaaay different from the OVA. Much more ecchi than I would have liked.

8.25 (good) Love this show! It's so crack-tastic and (somewhat) informative! Italy makes me want to pinch his cheeks... Love the overall concept. I do wonder about the longevity of the anime as the antics can get a little annoying after awhile. I can see that this totally works as a comic though.

8.25 (good) Love this manga! I wish it were released a little more often... Yamato is so hot! I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in their relationship.

EDIT: I love this manga and was so happy to hear it finally got it's own anime! So far they're staying pretty true to the manga storyline... though... I do like the manga art quality better than the animation. I think Mei looks a lot cuter in the manga than the anime. (And Yamato's voice took an episode to get used to. Was higher pitched than I imagined it in my head.)
